Doctor Aphra (2020) #2

*Potential spoilers ahead!*

So I’m still really liking this comic, in fact, I think I enjoyed the second issue even more than the first. First of all, I really liked that we saw a little more about the relationship between Aphra and Professor Okka. It seems like its much deeper than I assumed just from reading the first issue and I’m interested to see what drove the two so far apart. I also enjoy seeing some LGBTQ+ representation in Star Wars, and although there is definitely A LOT more representation that should be brought to the franchise, I do think that making such an amazing character part of the LGBTQ+ community is super cool! I hope to see more of this within the more “mainstream” sources of Star Wars in the near future!

I also appreciated the fact that this issue jumped right into the bulk of the story immediately and started to answer some of the questions posed in issue one. The imagery that comes when they enter the City of Vaale is great and it really brings this crazy mythological place to life. I particularly enjoyed the art in this issue, and I thought that the page illustrating the characters’ descent into the workshop was clever and honestly just... awesome.

I like Doctor Aphra more and more with each story I read that features her and I think that the Star Wars comics being released right now are great! For this reason, I think this one will continue to be entertaining. I went and picked up issue number 4 this past weekend so I look forward to seeing what the next two issues have to offer!
